INDIAN HIGH TEA – MELBOURNE STYLE

On Sunday 16 December, Friends of MITHRA’s Melbourne-based committee members hosted an Indian Afternoon Tea.

The event was attended by over 50 friends and family and held at St John’s Parish Hall In Heidelberg, in the north-east suburbs of Melbourne.

Attendees were treated to Indian sweets and pakoras, Indian chai tea, plus a healthy dose of other sweets and a welcome glass of French champagne on arrival.  The highlight of the event was the Bollywood dancing, culminating in a dance workshop. A few people, being primarily FOM committee members, succeeding in embarrassing themselves (but had a heap of fun at the same time).

Perhaps one of the most pleasing aspects of the event was the number of children in attendance (over 20 in total). They each got to hear and learn of the fantastic legacy created by Sr Mary Theodore and the wonderful work still being done by the staff of MITHRA on the ground in Chennai – and the importance of MITHRA in the lives of so many Indian families.

A number of the children who attended donated also their own pocket money to FOM as a beautiful gesture of their support. The future indeed looks bright with this heart-felt level of support from our next generation.

Our special thanks to Danielle Sellick, Nick Lux and Ben McDonald.
