Friends of Mithra Visit Chennai to Support Ongoing Upgrades

Recently, President of Friends of Mithra, Nick Lux, and Committee Member Helen Mahoney travelled to Mithra in Chennai to spend time with everyone at Mithra. Nick and Helen had only one day with the children, as the school was closing for the Tamil Nadu State Elections, followed immediately by the school holidays.

During their visit, they were able to identify areas in need of upgrades and have set in motion works to take place over the school holidays. There was also the opportunity to spend time with the Servite Sisters at Mithra.

One afternoon, Nick and Helen took the Sisters to Marina Beach for a walk and ice cream – a welcome outing for all and a chance to escape the extreme heat of the day.

They were accompanied to Marina Beach by a young gentleman, Bitu, who has been educated and assisted for a great part of his life by the Christian Brothers in Kolkata. He was visiting Chennai and Mithra at the same time as Nick and Helen.

Time was also spent with Selvyn Roy at his home for people with disability, Prema Vasam. Selvyn spent five years with Sister Mary Theodore at Mithra before opening his own establishment. It was a wonderful day spent with Selvyn and everyone at Prema.

On their last day, they were invited to attend the Anzac Day Dawn Service and Gunfire Breakfast, hosted by the Australian Consulate in Chennai. The service is held each year at the Madras War Cemetery and is a fitting tribute to Australian and allied troops.
